Updated Funeral Arrangements Sunday 16th May 2021

It saddens PRFC to announce the untimely death of our Roger Nichols, who died today in Queen Alexandra Hospital after being admitted a few days ago.

Roger has been a member of Portsmouth Rugby club for many years, after converting from football. He played second row in the glorious 4th team and was a renown tourist.

He then joined the Vets and toured regularly with them. Roger enjoyed looking after the kitty  - and ordering team cocktails!

Our thoughts are with Yvonne and Christopher at this time

Details of funeral arrangements :-

Dear All,

As before, we warmly invite you to celebrate Roger’s life on Tuesday 18th May at St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Church Lane, Exton SO32 3NU. The service will start at 2.30pm with food and drink (see below) served from 3.30pm onwards. Please feel free to circulate this email – addresses are blind copied so apologies in advance for any duplication.

The service will be livestreamed and you can access it by way of the following link

Church Capacity

We think that the Church will seat around 40 people on a socially-distanced basis. This may mean some attendees will be outside. We have provided cover in the form of gazebo and there should be outside speakers and a screen livestreaming the service for those who are outside the Church. Although unlikely, if the rain is heavy, this may impact the ability to screen the service immediately outside the Church but the main livestream should be unaffected.

Food and Drink

Albeit the rule of 30 restriction has been lifted and pub attendance is now subject to social-distancing restrictions only, Wakes are restricted to 30 people. Consequently food and drinks will be served at both The Shoe Inn, Exton (a 2 minute walk from the church) and The Buck’s Head, Meonstoke  (about one mile from the Church) from 3.30pm until 6.30pm. In time those at the Buck’s Head will gravitate to The Shoe so we can celebrate Roger’s life together.

Stubbornly the forecast has potential for light rain and it will be a bit chilly. Please do wrap up warm and remember your umbrella.

Donations and Tribute Page

With obviously no obligation to do so, we kindly ask that donations be made to the RNLI instead of flowers. The following link, which is Roger’s Tribute page, also has a link to enable you to donate direct to the RNLI

Please do take a look at Roger’s tribute page. You can add stories, add to his timeline, add photos and light a candle in his memory.

Face Masks

These must be worn in the Church. Please ensure you bring one.

Exton is a small village and we would be grateful if all attendees could park in the field next to “The Old School House” (Roger and Yvonne’s home) which itself is next to the church. Entrance is through a field gate on Church Lane.

Below you will find a map – the “parking field” is pasted yellow and the entrance is in red. I have also pasted the Church in turquoise.

Should you have any questions please feel free to call Chris on 07974 39 44 57 or email him at

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday (the 18th).

Much love

Yvonne, Chris, Lorraine, Milly and Freddie.
