We are delighted to announce the Senior Men’s coaching, management and medical set-up for the 2020-2021 season. We are confident that the new team will be able to build on what has been achieved over the last couple of years and we can’t wait to get started with you all.

1st XV Manager – Ian Alvey
Head Coach – Gareth Richards
Forwards Coaches – Daniel Roberts & Phil White
Strength & Condition Coach – Leon Taylor
Player/Coaches – Aaron Beesley & Lee Chandler
2nd XV Managers – Mike ‘Bungle’ Bailey & Mike Caspall
Senior Physiotherapist – Ricki Leadbetter and his team

We are thrilled to welcome Daniel Roberts and also Leon Taylor who returns to the club. Both are fantastic additions to the coaching set-up and we hope to announce the appointment of an experienced backs coach in the coming weeks. It is also fantastic that Aaron & Lee have agreed to take on a player/coach role as they will continue to play within the senior sides whilst also taking their first steps into coaching senior rugby.

In addition to the above, we will be appointing a dedicated coaching team to support the 2nd & 3rd XV’s on Saturdays. News on these appointments will follow in due course.

These are new and exciting times and we hope that you will all get behind the coaches and support the club in the best way you can.

Further to my announcement regarding the Senior Men’s Coaching setup last week, I am delighted to be able to update you with three fantastic additions to the team.

Colin Richardson, Jamie Allen and David Ladd have all agreed to take on coaching roles with a specific focus on the development of the 2nd and 3rd teams. They will be an integrated part of the coaching team, and in line with my philosophy and playing style, their main responsibilities will be to coach and prepare the sides on a Thursday and to lead the playing sides on match days.

These vitally important roles will support a smoother transition of players across our senior sides and will help ensure the progression of all players playing senior rugby.

I am thrilled the club has a comprehensive coaching setup to support all senior players over the coming season.

As I mentioned yesterday, I have been hoping to be able to confirm one more appointment to the Senior Men’s setup for this coming season. Please welcome on board Matt Davis who joins us as 1st XV Backs Coach. As some of you may know, Matt has a long history of involvement in Hampshire rugby and I am delighted he has agreed to come on board. I have included a little bit about Matt’s playing and coaching experience below.

We now have a full compliment of coaches for the coming season. I am so pleased with the quality of the group and have every belief we will be able help the players progress this year.

Matt Davis

Matt started playing local adult rugby in 1987 for Nomads RFC and got his 1st coaching qualification in 1994. He coached whilst playing and then joined United Services. Matt played 1st team, was Captain and then was appointed DoR and led US to an unbeaten season to return to the London Leagues. He has played vets rugby for last few years and is excited to get back coaching and play the odd game for Pompey.
