Firstly as always I hope you, your loved ones and families are all safe and well in these challenging times.

With the imminent easing of the lockdown restrictions by the government and the recent announcements by the RFU and Hampshire RFU regarding return to play subject to adapted laws, I thought we could do with another update.

Training will recommence for all senior and junior sides from 30th March on your normal training days/nights
The Juniors have a programme of training and fixtures up to the end of May and Gemma has been in touch with the Junior members already regarding this.Gareth has already communicated to the senior men, & Witch to the senior women, that the following Saturday events have been scheduled.

Saturday 10th April Senior Men’s intraclub touch tournament, Saturday 24th April Senior Men and Women’s intra club touch tournament, Saturday 8th May Senior Men’s intra club 10’s tournament (Contact allowed). Also the Kicking Cup will be held on the 11th May. That will be the beginning and the end of the 2020/21 season but we expect to recommence pre-season training for an anticipated “normal” 2021/22 season in July.

The exact details have not yet been released by the government but we should be allowed to open the club for outdoor drinks and refreshments for the Men & Women’s touch tournament on the 24th April and for the 10’s on the 8th May. We may be restricted for numbers so just in case and to avoid disappointment we will be reserving places on a first come first served basis and you book your place by calling Jamie Allen on 07786 446604 or email him at bar1886ltd@gmail.com
There is a much publicised event in aid of Rugby Against Cancer where a 63 strong team of walkers will be setting off to walk from Guys Hospital in London on Saturday 29th May and are expected to arrive, along with 15 cyclists cycling from Edinburgh, at PRFC around 18.00 on Sunday the 30th May. Monday the 31st May is a bank holiday. The club should be open, both indoors and outdoors, on the Sunday to welcome them and it is our intention to have a family BBQ late afternoon early evening. I hope as many of you as can will support this event whilst maintaining a safe COVID distance and complying with the yet to be published COVID restrictions. Again we may be restricted for numbers so just in case and to avoid disappointment we will be reserving places on a first come first served basis and you book your place by calling Jamie Allen on 07786 446604 or email him at bar1886ltd@gmail.com

By the time the summer test series begin for both Lions and Home Nations we should be outside of all COVID and lockdown restrictions and it our intention to open the club to watch the Saturday warm up games and all Lions Tests. More details will be published nearer to the time but we aim to provide you with Fine Ales and good food as provided by our new inhouse caterers Flaming June (Jimmy Martin).
Finally I repeat that the core of Portsmouth Rugby Football Club has always been community and family, and as we go through the next few difficult months this must be even more so. We are all handling the current restriction and challenges in our own way, but no one must feel isolated. If you or you know anyone who needs support, please make myself or the committee aware. Whether its support to take that first step back to training, walk through in to the club for a beer when we re-open or just a chat, PRFC will be there.

Regards
Jon
