Now that 'Freedom Day' has come and gone, we have had to re-programme our plans for the opening of the club for the Lions tours. We had hoped that from this coming Saturday 26th June, with all restrictions lifted, access to the club would be back to its rip-roaring ways with no need for the Covid protocols we have all had to adhere to over the last 15-months!
Alas, 'Freedom Day' has been pushed back to 19 July and we will review how we approach the Lions tour nearer that time. In the meanwhile, I am pleased to announce that the club will be open on Saturday 26 June as we are proud and delighted to once again host Rugby Against Cancer for their annual 10's tournament. Players from all over the city will congregate and play at Rugby Camp and we will be opening the bar from 12noon.
This Saturday also sees the opening match of the British & Irish Lions tour kicking-off against Japan at Murrayfield at 3pm and then at 5.30pm, the Gallagher Premiership concludes at Twickenham when Exeter will beat Harlequins to retain the cup!!
Both matches will be aired at the club but because the Covid protocols remain in place, all tables will need to be booked in advance with no more than six people to a table. Bar service will not resume (as hoped!) and so there will be table-only service and face-masks must be worn when not sat at the table. Hopefully, we will see many of you there but please pre-book with Jamie Allen at or on 07786 446 604. No booking, no entry!
I would also ask that we remain calm and polite with the bar waiting staff as there have been incidents where some members have been a little rude or stroppy with them because of the Covid-enforced regulations. It's not the fault of the staff that we have these protocols, so please remember that and behave accordingly.
Whilst there won't be food available this week, we are hoping there will be on the remaining Saturday's of the Lions tour. We have still to decide whether the club will open for the Wednesday matches and we will keep you posted as soon as we can before each match.
For your information, the tour schedule is promulgated below.
Thanks again for your continuing support and forbearance.
